Stockholm - Doctors
As soon as you arrive in Stockholm you should register with a doctor. To find out where your nearest Medical Care Centre (Vårdcentralen) is located, call 737 25 00. The first time you seek medical care, remember to ask for a "Högkonstnadskort", your personal card which you will use every time you go to a doctor. You have to pay a fee to see the doctor or visit a "walk-in" clinic or an emergency room. But as soon as you have reached the annual ceiling established by the national health system for medical care, you will receive free medical care for the rest of the year. A medical consultation can be organized within 8 days and when necessary a specialist consultation within 3 months. For children under the age of 7, vaccinations, health checks and consultations as well as certain types of treatment are free of charge at the children's clinics. Older children receive check-ups through their schools.
Patient fees
You have the right to choose a family doctor anywhere in Stockholm. And your
local health care centre (Vårdcentral) is obliged to provide you with one.
Patient fees are the same for public or private health care and you can find
a health centre in your area at
website: www.vardguiden.nu
· The fee charged for a day in hospital is Sek80 per
day.
· The fee for consulting a doctor in the primary health service varies
from Sek100 to Sek140 · For consulting a specialist fees vary from
Sek120 to Sek250.
To limit the expenses incurred by patients there is a
high-cost ceiling of Sek900 per year. Over that the person is entitled to
free medical care for the rest of the 12 months calculated from the date of
the first consultation. (Prices are under review)

Non-emergency
cases
For non-emergency
cases you should go to your local clinic (Vårdcentralen) or doctor's office
that are open from 9am to 5pm. Some advice, before going you should
telephone to make sure that a doctor will be available to see you and be
patient - you will be given a number and kept on hold until your turn comes.
If you inconveniently become ill after your doctor's telephone times, you
can go to the emergency room in your nearest hospital or to "after hours
clinics" or to a "walk in clinic" like the one below, where an appointment
is not needed. In the below mentioned clinic, surgical, medical, ear, nose
and throat doctors are available as well as Xray and
laboratory.
