Stockholm - Antiques

Stockholm has many antique shops, most of which are in the centre of town and in the Old Town. The stores are of varying quality and so is the service. For the high end of the market you should go to the auction houses.

    Members of the International Institute of Conservation. Atelje Ebeniste is focuses on restoration of pre 19th Century fine antique furniture using traditional methods and techniques that were used at the relevant time period. Marquetry repairs are also done. All repairs are done using period material.

    Auction goods are shown on Wednesdays and Saturdays between 8.30-15.00. Other weekdays auctions take place from 9 a.m. "Kundtjänst" (Customer Service) same telephone number, will bid for you. They have quality auctions in April and November. Their catalogue for these auctions can be ordered. For a fee, written bids can be submitted (inropsuppdrag) on forms available at their office. If a successful bid is made in person at the public auction, the item may be paid for and taken along. With a successful written bid, the item may be picked up not earlier than two days after the auction, but no later than eight days after. The charge for a written bid is a percentage of the bid price on all successful bids.

Taking antiques out of the country:
There are restrictions on some pre-1860 articles, such as furniture, mirrors, clocks and watches, etc. Applications for exemption from such restrictions should be made to:
