Singapore - Career opportunities

Career opportunities for trailing spouses are good in Singapore. A traditional kind of job working 9 to 5 in an office may not be easy to find, especially in the current economic environment but there are many other opportunities. The government has systems in place that make it easy to work from home with good communications including fast broadband internet connections available everywhere. Income tax is low. Domestic help and different kinds of childcare are readily available.

Immigration, visa and work permit issues are mostly straightforward. Trailing spouses who are legally married to their partner will be issued with a Dependents visa and thy then may apply for a Letter of Consent to work in Singapore. Those without a marriage certificate cannot obtain a Dependents Visa, and will have to enter Singapore on a Tourist Visa or Social Visit Visa and will have to apply for an employment pass in their own right.
