BUY A CAR

Be prepared for very, very high prices that include the cost of the Certificate of Entitlement (COE) and an import duty. Only a certain number of COEs are available each month and these are released for bidding usually by car dealers. The COE is valid for ten years. Additionally all cars imported into Singapore (which means all cars because none are manufactured here) pay a customs duty which is 31% of the Open Market Value (OMV). There is a registration fee and an Additional Registration fee which acts as a holding bond to encourage cars to be scrapped before they are ten years old.

Buying a Used Car
Of course, buying a used car is cheaper than buying new but it will still be surprisingly expensive. Second hand cars are advertised in the Saturday newspapers and on notice boards at supermarkets and social clubs. You can also look at auto centers such as-

SELL A CAR

The following procedure for selling a car is from www.onemotoring.com.sg . The current owner and the buyer must complete a transfer of ownership application form and submit it with the necessary checklist of documents to the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and pay the correct transfer fees.
