Oslo - Tax system

Norway has a progressive tax system. The income tax (inntektsskatt) system is divided into general tax and personal tax. General tax is calculated for all taxpayers, both companies and individuals. It includes all taxable income from work, business and capital.
The most important tax allowances that can be deducted from these are interest payments on debts and a basic tax allowance on wages and pensions.
In addition, travel expenses to and from work, trade union fees, donations, documented expenses for child care etc. are deductibles. Personal income tax is based on a gross income. From this, social security taxes are calculated. Married couples can choose the tax category that result in the lowest total tax for the couple.
