Oslo - News
Magazines and Newspapers
Norwegians read the most newspapers and magazines in Europe. There are more
than 200 newspapers issued in the country and more than 90 of these have
their own web site. The four main national papers are Aftenposten, Dagbladet
(tabloid), VG (tabloid, biggest sales) and Dagens Næringsliv (financial
tabloid).
Magazines, papers, books, CDs and videos are sold at newsagents, kiosks,
supermarkets and petrol stations. The largest and most widely found
newsagent/kiosk chain in Norway is called Narvesen. This newsagent has the
biggest selection of newspapers and magazines and you find outlets in many
central locations in Oslo, Asker and Bærum, as well as airports, bus and
train stations, hospitals, universities and shopping centres. The biggest
national newspaper (Oslo based, with English version), Aftenposten, can be
read online at: www.aftenposten.no
In addition, there is the online newspaper Nettavisen, which can be
read at: www.nettavisen.no

Freedom of the press
In Norway, the freedom of the press in guaranteed in the Constitution. Any
person is granted the right to have access to governmental records (apart
from those protected by exemptions, such as internal and security
documents), but this is not always practised to full satisfaction. Another
restrictive aspect of the freedom of the press is the ethical guidelines.
The Press Association has defined specific ethical rules for the public role
of the press, integrity and responsibility, as well as the relationship with
sources. For more information, contact the Norwegian Press Association
