Oslo - Car insurance
There are three main types of car insurance (bilforsikring):
1. Third party liability (ansvarsforsikring) or traffic
insurance (trafikkforsikring), which is required by law when you
purchase a vehicle. This insurance provides coverage in case you are
responsible for damage or injury to a third party.
2. Personal injury (personskade) provides coverage to the driver and the
passengers in the car in case of an accident. This is partly included
in the traffic insurance, but additional insurance is recommended.
3. Comprehensive insurance (kaskoforsikring) provides coverage on the car.
This type of insurance covers cases of fire, theft, breakage and road
assistance and in some cases collision damage. Ask the insurance
company for details on the variety of comprehensive insurance packages.
Insurance rates vary according to the age of the driver and the car, as well as the type of car and the mileage on the car. The insurance premium is higher for drivers under 25. A no claims bonus is offered according to how many years the car has been in use without any insurance claims against it. This bonus can amount to 75 % after five years.
