Prescriptions
Getting prescription medicines in Mexico is rather easy. Doctors do extend a written prescription at the doctor’s visit, but they are usually not required by the pharmacist, except in the case of tranquilizers and certain controlled medicines. However, you will need the prescription to have your health insurance reimburse the cost of the medicines, if your insurance company does cover them.
There are chain pharmacies, neighborhood pharmacies, and in-store pharmacies such as stores like Sanborn's, Superama, Gigante, etc.
Chain pharmacies offer the lowest prices, and in-store pharmacies offer the convenience of providing your medicines where you shop for groceries. However, neighbourhood pharmacies have the advantage of faster service. You are in and out in a few minutes and many of them will take phone-in orders and then deliver the medicines (and other merchandise including cigarettes) right to your door.
