Kuwait - Hospitals
Public clinics
There are over 63 public clinics throughout Kuwait, all of which are open from 7:00 am – 2:00 pm and from 4:00 pm – 11:00 pm. All expatriates with public health insurance are obliged to pay KD1 to clinics for every visit; those with private health insurance pay KD5. The public health service does not provide for home visits.
Public hospitalsThere are five major (general) public hospitals in Kuwait, each of which provides a full outpatients service as well as a 24-hour emergency service.
Specialist government hospitals are located throughout Kuwait with the majority being in West Shuwaikh in the proximity of Gamal Abdul Nasser Street.
You are required to produce your Civil ID when visiting a government hospital or clinic. All expatriates with public health insurance are obliged to pay KD2 to hospitals for every visit; those with private health insurance pay KD10. The government insurance, paid on the application/renewal of residence permits, exempts expatriates from the daily inpatient charges payable when they receive treatment in hospitals, as well as those charges for operations, medicines, x-rays and laboratory tests. Expatriates with the government insurance are subsidised for the costs of specialised tests including CT, MRI and sonar scans.
