Hong Kong - Places for Children
If you’re looking for something to do with the kids, try Ocean Park. It’s a large amusement park with roller coasters, rides, and a marine show. If you plan on going more than once, it’s worth buying a season pass as the pass is very cheap. Call + 852 2552 0291 for information. Ocean Park is near Aberdeen and a bus from the Star Ferry or the Admiralty Centre can take you there.
If it’s hot and you want to take the kids swimming, try Water World, which is next to Ocean Park. It’s got water slides and lots of pools.
Hong Kong has lots of museums, but I think the best one to take kids is the Science Museum as it’s very hands on and a lot of fun. It’s in Kowloon, near Granville Road on 2 Science Museum Road. Call + 852 2732 3232 for more information.
The Space Museum can also be fun. There’s a theater that shows movies on the ceiling while you tilt your chair back for an amazing view. The museum is great for space buffs. It’s located near the Star Ferry at 10 Salisbury Road, next to the Cultural Centre.
If you want to get out and see the animals without going too far, try the Hong Kong Botanical Gardens. It’s right above Central and admission is free. From Central, walk up Icehouse Street to the Garden on Albany Road. Or, walk up from the US consulate and you’ll come across the gardens.
For a day excursion, go to Kadoorie Farm and Botanical Gardens . It’s out in the New Territories and will let you feast your eyes on the greenery instead of a big city. There are a number of interesting plants and animals out here. When animals are being smuggled from one country to the next and are discovered, the Kadoorie farm offers a new home for them. Call + 852 2488 1317 to make reservations in advance (be sure to do this!). Take the KCR to Tai Po, then take bus #64. Ask your bus driver where to let you off.
