Sewage and Water (Abwasser und Wasser)
Sewage and water services are provided solely by the SWM. You are billed by the amount of water you use. Each house has its own meter. Apartments may have their own meters, or only one meter for the whole building. If there is just one meter for the whole building, the bill can either be charged according to the number of people living in each household or more normally according to the size of the apartment in square meters. This second method of billing is not as fair as the per person charge, but it is totally legal.

If you are renting, the costs are normally passed on to you from the landlord via the monthly Nebenkosten.
