Special Schools (Förderschulen)

Munich has many associations for the disabled, be it a physical or intellectual disability (see 'Services for the Disabled'), and also has provisions for children with learning or social disabilities. A list of Förderschulen, special schools for children, can be found below.

There are many reasons why a child may need special support in education: family problems leading to learning difficulties, a mental or a physical disability. Munich's Förderschulen cater for all these needs. A sample of these schools are listed below. You can find a complete list in the Bürgerservice section of the GelbeSeiten under Förderschulen.

A special program for children up to 21 who have problems performing well in the traditional school system is P.I.K.A.S.S.I.O. "Projekt für Integration, Kreativität, Arbeit, Schulung, Service, Innovation und Organisation" (Project for integration, creativity, work, educations, service, innovation and organisation). Sport Activities for Special Needs Children

There are several sporting activities and clubs designed specifically for children with special needs.

sehbehinderte und blinde is for children with sight problems
gehörlose is for children with hearing difficulties
körperbehinderte is for children with other physical disabilities
geistig behinderte is for children with intellectual disabilities

There are also several other organisations open to special needs children and their families. These can be found in the Yellow Pages "GelbeSeiten" in the front section Bürgerservice under:
- Gesundheit Health, for a particular disease or illness (including psychological ones)
- Jugendhilfe for children and teenagers in crisis
- Kinderhilfe for children and families, including school advice
- Männer- u. Väterhilfe for single parents.
