Munich - Pregnancy and Childbirth

Before moving to Munich, my GP advised me not to get pregnant while in Germany, as the doctors never let you out of their sight! I have not personally put this to the test, but other mothers agree that you and your foetus are very well monitored (and health insurance does NOT cover all of it!). Another thing expectant (and prospective) mothers should be aware of is the German doctors' reluctance to perform Ceasarians unless absolutely necessary and their predilection for performing episiotomies.

This information is of course in German. The various institutions offer a range of services. All of them have information evenings. Most offer pre-natal classes and exercise programs for spinal care and strengthening during pregnancy, and an ambulance to transport you to hospital once the contractions kick in.
