There is no limit to the amount of doctor visits you can have. But you do have to pay 10 Euros per quarter of a year. This amount is due on your first visit of the quarter. If you are insured privately, this amount does not need to be paid and you can make an appointment directly with a specialist without needing a note of referral from your GP.

Prospective mothers should take note: German doctors will only perform a Ceasarian if it is absolutely necessary.

Beware - although these doctors (and dentists) speak English, their receptionists do not necessarily do so, so ringing up to make an appointment can be tricky!
