Car registration    
All cars are registered at the "Prefecture" you belong to. You must have a "Carte Grise" for your car. This one is delivered by the "Préfecture". It contains the technical/legal specs of the car: id number printed on the frame and on the engine (VID in 'american'), the number of people it can carry, the max weight allowed, max/min size of the tyres, max/min dimensions of the car, engine declared power, the ownership history etc.

For registering a new car, you will need those documents:

- Proof of residence and identity
- The "cession" certificate
- The "carte grise"

Let the car dealer do all the paperwork for you. It's their job after all!
