Food can be purchased in hypermarkets/supermarkets, little shops or open air markets, which are held at least once a week in any village or tiny town. There are daily open air markets in predetermined areas in larger cities. You will find everything even if you are in the countryside!
Most shops are closed on Sunday, but open air markets are available on every day of the week.
Bread can be purchased fresh in bakeries EVERY day! French people will not compromise when it comes to bread.
