Houston - Debit cards
Debit cards (or Plasticheck) access directly your bank account.
You can withdraw money from an ATM (Automatic Teller Machine) using a PIN code (Personal Identification Number).
There is a fixed daily maximum amount (on average $300 per 24 hours period) and a monthly limit.
Any purchase with a debit card will be directly billed to your bank account.
Your own bank's ATM machines can give you the current balance and latest movements of the accounts connected to your debit card.
You can use other banks' ATMs for withdrawal of cash, but beware, if you cash from an ATM which is not in part of your bank network, most institutions will charge you a fixed fee (between 1.50 to 2.75 dollar).
At ATMs also VISA, Master Card and American Express are accepted for cash withdrawals, unless otherwise specified.
