Denmark - CPR number

The key to become a resident in Denmark

All people resident in Denmark have to be inscribed in the National Civil Register and being assigned a CPR number (civil registry number or personal identification number), a 10 digit CPR number.

The first 6 digits are your date of birth (day, month, year), the last 4 are numbers that uniquely identify each resident of Denmark.

The last digit identifies your gender – women have an even number, men an uneven.

Therefore, a person whose CPR number is 261061-1472 was born on October 26th, 1961 and is a female.

The CPR number is necessary for registration and personal identification, e.g. when purchasing a property, do banking or any insurance transactions.
