Welcome to Copenhagen!
Copenhagen, Denmark's capital, is right on the sea and on clear days you have a view all the way to Sweden!
Located on the island of Zealand (Sjælland in Danish) to the far east of Denmark, the capital has a population of around 1,5 million inhabitants. Copenhagen charm revolves around the city being a metropolis while retaining its 'village' atmosphere, in comparison to other European capitals.
Its size does help. In fact, in fifteen minutes you can bike from one end of town to the other, and biking is actually the preferred form of transport, although cars are becoming a problem here too.
Copenhagen has a good blend of history, culture, well preserved old architecture as well as fantastic modern buildings, everything nested around its old merchant harbour.
Despite the weather, often inclement, the Danes love and enjoy life outdoors, whether it is biking, rowing on the channels, roller-blading through the city, running or sipping coffee in one of the many cafes around town.
Expatriates will find in Copenhagen open-minded welcoming people and a note of reassurance for the Anglophones, most Danes speak fluent English!
