Stockholm - Small tour around the city

Drottningholm Slott
is a royal castle only 20 minutes from Stockholm city. Drottningholmsteatern performs here in the summers. You can take the subway to Bromma and then get one of the connecting buses 301-323. In the summertime, boats leave from Stadshusbron by Stadshuset.

Ekenäs Slott
hosts every Whitsun weekend (pingst) a traditional medieval jousting event with international teams. Medieval craftsman fair and activities for the whole family. The castle is located approximately 1,5 hours south of Stockholm close to Linköping.

Gripsholms Slott, Mariefred.
This castle, built in the 16th Century has been inhabited by several kings and is still well preserved. In the summer theater companies perform here and medieval jousting events take place. Also during summertime boat rides departing from Stadshuset at lOam are available Qr take the commuter trains to Södertalje and take the connecting SLT buses to Mariefred. Tel. +46 519 10194.
Sandhamn is the archipelago town where the world 's largest sailing race, Gotland Runt, starts every summer. This weekend in the beginning of July is preceded and ended with a large party. However, Sandhamn is lovely year round regardless of whether you like to ice skate or sail. There are no cars
on the island and you can get there by boat from Stavsnäs.

Sigtuna
the oldest city in Sweden, has charming narrow streets and old wooden houses. You can feel the time of history here. There are plenty of things to see and do including Sigtuna Museum. Tant Brun is a legendary cafe where you can stop off for a tea or coffee. Take the commuter train from T-Centralen to Märsta and take the connecting train to Sigtuna. Take a boat ride from Stockholm or Uppsala in the summers. By car go north on E4 to Sigtuna.

Skokloster Slott.
This castle has one of the world's most extensive exhibitions of the European baroque era. The collection exhibits art, paintings, weapons and books. The castle is open between May and September. Take the commuter train from T-Centralen to Kungsängen; bus 891 from the station to Bålsta bus station change to bus 894. By car go north on E 18 or E4 to Sigtuna.

Trosa
is a small, idyllic town that is reminiscent the way life was depicted in old movies. Wooden houses on cobblestone roads run next to a stream. You can go here in the winter to ice-skate or come swimming in the summer. During the summer the town is filled with tourists and you can choose between a variety of restaurants and pubs. The town is lovely and you will enjoy it any time of year. You can get here by commuter train or drive south on E4.

Tyresta nationalpark
a nature's reserve outside Handen south of the city. Lakes, forests and open areas can be found here and the nature enjoyed. You can ski in the winter, run or walk or ride during the other seasons. Animals and birds can be seen here. Buses 807 and 809 leave from subway station Gullmarsplan, or you can take the commuter train to Handen and get on the connecting bus 834.

Ulriksdals Slottsområde
hosts a restaurant, a theater called Confidencen, a sculpture museum and a stable museum. The area is also very suitablefor walks, ice-skating, and cross-country skiing. A walk around the park takes approximately one hour. If you drive north on E3, E4 or East on E18 toward Enköping you will see signs for Ulriksdal. You can get there by boat leaving from Grand Hotel in the summer and bus 540 leaving from Universitet. You can also take the subway to Bergshamra and then walk the last part.

Uppsala
is an old city which hosts one of the oldest universities in Sweden. Take the one hour train from T-Centralen. Do remember to buy a ticket in the ticket machine before entering the train.

Utö
you can sunbathe on the cliffs or browse in the quaint little shops. You can also rent bikes or walk around the island. Boats leave from Nybrokajen or Årsta Havsbad.

Waxholm
an old fishing village and is also sometimes called the gateway to the archipelago. The narrow streets with small cottages are truly idyllic. The fortress has been turned into a defense museum open in the summer. Buses (670-673) leave from the Royal College of Technology, (Tekniska Hogskolan) Valhallavagen, it takes approximately 45 minutes, or you can take the boat from Nybrokajen which takes about one hour. Don't miss the Waxholm Fortress.
