Singapore - Phone

All Singapore telephone numbers have 8 digits. Mobile numbers begin with 9, all other numbers begin with 6. There are no district codes. The Singapore country code is 65.

Three companies offer a mixture of local fixed line, international and mobile connections with different payment options including pre-paid cards. Mobile phones can also be used for paging and for sending text messages (SMS). Phone companies also offer international roaming services.

Singtel is the largest telephone company and currently the only company providing a fixed line local calls service. Also provides IDD (International Direct Dialing) and mobile services. Starhub has a mobile service and an IDD service. The M1 company has a mobile service only. A few companies that provide only an IDD service are listed at the end of this section.

A home telephone line should be organized for you by your real estate agent. If you have to make the arrangements yourself you can obtain an application form from any post office or SingTel Hello! Shop. Application forms for mobile phone contracts can be obtained from the relevant stores (see below). You will need to show your passport and employment pass when submitting the applications.

The three mobile phone companies also offer pre-paid cards for those people who do not want a mobile phone contract with monthly fees. They offer a variety of ways for topping up the card including through some bank ATM’s.
