Singapore - Homeowner Insurance

If you own a property you need homeowners insurance.

Homeowner's insurance or Home Insurance is a policy which is a combination of various personal insurance protections against disasters.

A standard homeowner's insurance policy insures the home as well as the content.

This package insurance policy covers both damage to property as well as liability/legal responsibility for any injuries and property damage caused by the homeowner or by his/her family member (including damage caused by household pets) to other people. This type of insurance does not cover for damage caused by disasters such as floods, earthquakes (a purchase of additional policies is necessary for these catastrophic events) and poor maintenance.

The homeowner insurance policy is a term contract (effective for a fixed period of time), but in some cases a perpetual insurance (without a fixed term or expiration date) could be obtained.

A standard homeowner's policy must include four important types of coverage. Such as:

- home structure coverage

- coverage for homeowner's personal belongings

- Liability coverage

- additional living expenses coverage in case of temporary homelessness in the event of an insured disaster.

In Singapore insurance policies are available from most banks as well as from insurance companies.
