Singapore - Groups

Singapore has a very large expatriate community and there are many organisations that you can join where you can make new friends. Joining an expatriate group not only helps you feel connected to your own culture, but can also help you understand the new culture that you are in.

Many groups organise tours and activities that feature food and ceremonies connected with local events like the Chinese New Year or the Indian festival called Devali. Some of the national associations are open to members of other nationalities so don’t confine yourself to your own national group.

Many non-Americans join the American Association, because membership provides access to the Career Resource Centre for Expatriates (CRCE). Expat groups can usually provide contact details for doctors, churches, who to call for babysitting and provide practical help in emergency situations.
