Singapore - Items that are forbidden to import

Prohibited items - the following items cannot be brought into Singapore:

  • Narcotics and Controlled drugs - the warning on the Singapore Customs website says, “Death for drug traffickers under Singapore law.”
  • Pornographic Material
  • Fire Crackers
  • Chewing tobacco and imitation tobacco products
  • Cigarette lighters of pistol or revolver shape
  • Chewing gum – not sold in Singapore and not allowed to be chewed in public. If found doing so, one could be jailed for one year or fined $5,000. Since 1992 Singapore has banned the import, manufacture and sale of chewing gum. This law was enacted after doors on a train were stuck with chewing gum and were unable to be opened.
  • Endangered species of wildlife and their by-products
  • Video tapes, video compact discs, laser discs, records or cassettes that don’t comply with copyright laws
  • Seditious and treasonable materials
