Singapore - Getting a driving licence

Foreigners living in Singapore for more than 12 months must apply for a Singapore driving license. If you already have a license and are over 18 years old – you can in most cases convert this license to a Singapore license without having to take a driving test.

Application

To convert a license to a Singapore license you must apply to take the Basic Theory of Driving test.
Apply in person with your current drivers license, your passport and $6 test fee at –

You will be given a test fee receipt indicating the date & time of your test and the venue of the test.
The Basic Theory test is an English language multiple choice test based on the Basic Theory of Driving manual published by the Traffic Police. You can obtain a copy of this manual from the driving centres listed above or from bookstores.

Obtaining a drivers license

You must apply in person with your current drivers license (with a translation if not in English), passport and results slip proving you passed the Basic Theory test to-

Actually taking a driving license test

Before taking the Practical Driving Test you must first pass the Final Theory Test. There is more information on the driving test and how to obtain a drivers license at- www.ecitizen.gov.sg   - select ‘transport’ category and click on ‘learn to drive’.

Instruction permits

If you do not already have a driving license and you are over 18 years of age then you follow the procedures above. When you have passed the Basic Driving Test you may apply for a- Provisional Driving License- this license allows you to take driving lessons at one of the following centres-
