Oslo - TV-Cable-Internet-Radio

Radio and TV
Until the early eighties, Norway's broadcasting system used to be dominated by NRK (the Norwegian Broadcasting Company), which was owned and run by the government. Programmes were financed by the state, and everybody who owned a TV or radio had to pay for a TV license (which is still the case). No advertising was allowed.

This has rapidly changed and now there is a diversity of private and local TV and radio stations, and advertising is commonplace. But advertising for tobacco and alcohol, as well as advertising with a racist, sexist or any other discriminating content, is banned.

ISP  -  Internet
Norway, Finland and the USA are the three countries in the world with the highest density of Internet users. Norway also is the country where most people have high speed Internet connections (ISDN, ADSL, broad band, fibre optic equipment). The amount of businesses and organisations registering web sites and using the Internet for information and marketing is rapidly increasing. A useful web site for locating Norwegian businesses, links and information on many topics is: www.startsiden.no
