For senior citizens with special needs for assistance, the availability of housing is limited. An application has to be submitted well in advance, as the waiting lists in certain areas in Oslo can be several years.
The allocation of a place is decided according to priority and in many cases where the tenant lives. Nursery homes can be private or run by charitable organisations, they may be connected to a church or a hospital or owned and run by a municipality.
Accommodation in a nursery home is most often rented and the payment can be debited directly from the tenant's pensions. It is advisable to inquire about details with the different nursing homes, as terms and conditions vary, as do the staffing and resources
