Oslo - Language schools

Even though many Norwegians speak English fluently it really is worth learning the language if you are planning to stay in the country for any length of time. Knowing the language spoken in the country you are going to live in will make your stay more interesting and much easier. On a practical level you will experience less frustration if you can understand signs, timetables, notices, labels on goods or get the gist of adverts, weather reports, official documents etc. By learning some Norwegian you will be able you to communicate with the local people and know your way through shops, restaurants, school and kindergarten, post office, bank, traffic and any everyday task that comes up. Learning the language is a door to the culture and it's people.

Intensive courses

If you have time (and money) on your hands an intensive course can be a good option to get you off to a quick start.  Each year Oslo University offers a summer school of intensive language instruction.
