Oslo - Electricity

Electricity in Norway is 220 or 230 volt, like in most European countries. Sockets and plugs are the same design as you find in France and Germany.

The electricity supply in Norway comes mainly from hydroelectric power stations, and the energy market is deregulated and competitive. The electricity prices include VAT (currently 24%). Electricity bills are normally sent out quarterly, but you can arrange with your electricity company to have fixed monthly payments. Electricity meters are installed in the fuse box inside your house, and you are regularly requested to send in a meter reading to your electricity supplier. When you move in to and out of your house/apartment, make sure you note the meter reading and agree with the landlord/next or previous tenant/owner about the correct reading. Based on this, the energy supplier will know where to split the bills on to different accounts. To set up or cancel services, simply call the energy supplier for details.
