Mexico - Housing Typology

Study the city and the distances. Some elements to be considered are: where the job is located, the time you want to spend in the car depending on the traffic, the school and the school’s bus stop, where your national community is present, the level of security in the chosen area.

Apartments
The advantage of apartments ("departamentos") over houses is the security most of them offer, plus the convenience of having all the common areas taken care of for you. Try to go for a well maintained building, even if the homeowner's fees are a little bit higher. It will save you a lot of hassles and chances are, your neighbors will be civilized people. Whereas a poorly maintained building may mean the neighbors in general are not as tidy or co-operative. You will be able to find apartments with 24-hour security at the entrance.

Condominiums or Townhouses
They usually range from small to medium in size, with 2 or 3 bedrooms. They are a good choice because you have the convenience of a house, plus the security and maintenance maintained by the homeowner's association.

Houses
Here you will have a wide variety to choose from, in terms of size, price, age, and features. For safety reasons, apartments and condominiums are becoming increasingly more popular.
