Mexico - Credit Card

Just like in most countries, credit cards are issued by banks and by some department stores or mass merchandisers. You may choose to pay your balance in full every month, or pay the minimum balance, in which case you would be incurring in revolving credit thus paying for financial charges.

You may choose from a variety of credit cards, with different features: points for usage (loyalty rewards) which can be redeemed for merchandise or airline tickets, international acceptance for traveling abroad through the Visa, Mastercard or American Express network. Some offer insurance against fraudulent use, in that you wouldn't be responsible for any charges made without your knowledge using your account number. Some others offer travel insurance, life insurance, baggage loss insurance, etc. Also, it is very important to choose a credit card with good customer service.

You will find that many merchants will not accept charging your credit card over the phone or the internet. This is due to the high volume of fraudulent charges they constantly experience. The same goes for checks.

Be sure to shop around for the best deals and the features that best suit your needs, before choosing a credit card.

Once you get your credit cards, write down their customer service telephone numbers and keep them handy in case you have them lost or stolen.
