Language: Arabic is the official language, English is widely spoken.

Currency in Kuwait: Kuwaiti dinar (KWD)

Time zone: Kuwait Time Standard Time is 3 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time  (GMT+3). Meaning that if in London is 11 am, in Kuwait is 2 pm (or 14:00)

Electricity: 220-240V ; 50 Hz, this means that unless your computer or appliance is dual voltage (most of the recent ones are) or designed for 220/240 volts, you will need a converter or transformer. The cycles (Hz) are 50 per second.

Electric plug: type C and  G

  • C type is a two-wire plug ungrounded with two round prongs. Also called Europlug it is probably the single most widely used international plug. Compatible with any socket that accepts 4.0-4.8 mm round contacts on 19 mm centres. Used in most European countries with the exception of United Kingdom and Ireland. Common in various parts of the developing world.
  • G type plug are mainly used in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Cyprus, Malta, Malaysia and Singapore. They have three prongs (two flat and one rectangular) placed at the vertix of a triangle. 

Phone jacks: Kuwait uses the UK phone jack, as well as the Jordan / Middle East phone jack.

DVD zone: Kuwait is DVD Zone 2

TV format: The television format in Kuwait is PAL B/G. PAL stands for Phase Alternation Line, or Phase Alternating Line)

Mobile phone system: GSM and TACS.

  • GSM (Global System for Mobile telephone) is a mobile telephone standard established mainly in Europe, South East Asia, Australia, Africa and now North America. It's the closest thing there is to an "international" standard. GSM systems are used in nearly 200 countries (with 600 million subscribers) 
  • TACS  - Total Access Communications Service, used in Austria, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Cambodia, China, Democratic Republic of Congo, Gambia, Ghana, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Kuwait, Malaysia, Mauritius, Nigeria, the Philippines, Singapore, Spain, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, and Yemen.  Uses a protocol known as Frequency Division Multiple Access (FDMA).  ETACS (Extended TACS), ITACS (International TACS), IETACS (International Extended TACS, NTACS (Narrowband TACS and JTACS (Japan TACS) are variation of this system.

International phone calls
When calling Kuwait from another country dial:
IDD (International Direct Dial) code of the country you are calling from + 965 + phone number.
There is no area code in Kuwait.

Calling abroad from Kuwait dial:
00 (IDD for Kuwait ) + country code + area code (if necessary) + phone number.
