Hong Kong - Work Permit

If you do not have a dependent's visa and you did not get a work permit before you entered Hong Kong, it is extremely difficult to get one. You would have to find a company that wants to employ you and is able to get a work permit for a foreigner.

As of July 1, 2003 the dependent work status has changed. It used to be that if you had a dependent status, you could work without first obtaining a work visa. Now, one would be required to obtain prior permission from the Director of Immigration as stated here: "requiring the dependants of certain categories of sponsors to obtain prior permission from the Director of Immigration before they can take up employment."  Information on how to obtain prior permission can be found at: www.immd.gov.hk/ehtml/20030702.htm
