Hong Kong - Natural Catastrophes

During a strong typhoon, you should tape a big X across your windows with masking tape.  If an object is thrown against the glass and breaks the window, less glass will enter your apartment.

If the wind is really strong (signal 9+) stay away from your air conditioner as they have been known to blow into the flat.

When a typhoon signal is hoisted, be sure to have water, food, and candles on hand.  Bring in any items from your deck that could fly away or fly into your windows.  If you live on the bottom floor, or own a ground floor company, you may want to put sandbags around the doors to keep flooding water out.  This can be necessary with black rain cloud warnings too.
