Hong Kong - Public Transport

Public transportation in Hong Kong is excellent and many people find they don’t need a car. Some families decide to buy a car for convenience. The cost of buying a second hand car is reasonable, but what is expensive is the petrol (HKD $11.50 per litre), parking (which is difficult to find and pricey), insurance, yearly check-ups, and yearly registration.

Octopuscard
Buy an octopus card when you arrive. You can buy them at the MTR stations or 7-11’s. You put money onto the card and then you wave the card at the reader machines for the MTR and most buses, and your fare is automatically
deducted. This makes riding the bus and MTR hassle free.
