Munich - Pet Shops

More than one third of households in Germany have at least one pet. The animals included in this statistic range from the usual cats and dogs to horses, rodents like guinea pigs and hamsters, ornamental birds and fish and other aquarium animals. Special permission needs to be granted to keep "dangerous" animals such as particular breeds of dog, tigers and poisonous snakes.

If you buy an animal whilst in Germany and intend to take it back to your home country, check the quarantine regulations for bringing the animal into your home country first. Countries like Australia have a 6 month quarantine period for household pets. Knowing the quarantine regulations for your home country will save you and the animal unnecessary distress when the time comes to go back home.

Pet shops are called "Zoohandlungen". Shopping malls normally have a pet shop selling birds, fish, small mammals and pet supplies. Zoohandlungen in the city centre include:
