Munich - Real Estate Taxes

When you buy a property you have to pay "Grunderwerbssteuer" (property aquisition tax) of around 3.5% of the value of the property. In addition to this there is a yearly real estate tax. Many factors contribute to the amount of tax, depending on location and the size of the property, so a general sum does not apply.

Capital gains tax is also applicable to certain investments, including real estate if the sale occurs within 10 years of acquisition. Capital gains are taxable at the same rate as personal income.
