Munich - Animal Department

The official animal department changed its name in 2002 to "Staatliches Veterinäramt für das Gebiet der Landeshauptstadt München." 15 vets and 3 administrators (quite a good ratio for a government department!) work in the fields of food and meat hygiene, animal protection, animal disease control and animal medicines. The Staatliches Veterinäramt sets standards for the care of all animals, both privately owned and those owned for professional purposes including pet shops, circuses and the zoo.
