Munich - After School Activities

A great source information about children's activities in Munich

There is an excellent website for children's sport in Munich, which allows you to choose between:

- the type of sport "Sportart" (everything from aerobics to breakdancing to speed skating to table tennis)
- the geographical area "Stadtteil"
- the age of your child "Alter" from 0 - 18 years
- the day of the week "Tag" the sport is played
- a particular sporting club "Verein" by name, including the aptly-named "Hockey-Club Wacker"
- the time of day the sport is played "Uhrzeit".

There are also options for choosing sports for disabled children.

The site is in German only

Other generic sporting websites of interest, also all in German only:

School sport

website: www.laspo.de/
The "laspo" comes from "Bayerische Landestelle fur den SchulSport" - quite a stretch for an acronym that doesn't really sound that cool...

The Munich "Familienservice" (family service) organises quite an extensive school holiday program for children aged
4 - 15.
A summary of the activities available in Summer 2003 included:

- two week trip to Exmouth in England, with English lessons in the morning and excursions in the afternoon
- one week  of hiking in the Alps and other sporting activities
- one week of horse-riding
- weekly day programs in the city where children play musical instruments, learn craft and play games.

Munich City for Children
There is also a publication available, called München Stadt für Kinder (Munich city for children). Its eleven chapters cover family, childcare, housing, schools, education, games, sport, health, advice, law, finance and politics. The book costs 7 Euro, or 5 Euro for "frisch gebackene Eltern" (freshly-baked parents or first-time parents), and is available in most bookshops, as well as from the City Information centre in Marienplatz.
