Germany - Leasing a Car

There are many benefits to leasing a car whilst an expat. Financially you do not have to put any capital upfront, other than the monthly payments. There are also tax benefits to leasing a car, including being able to buy the car at a reduced rate of value-added tax at the end of the lease. As an expat leasing can be much better than buying, because at the end of your stay you simply return the car to the leasing company, rather than have the hassle of selling it, and possibly being without a car for the last few days or weeks.

Another benefit to leasing is being able to upgrade the vehicle so that you can always have the latest and greatest model to drive. An additional benefit, which you will hopefully not need to make use of, is the added service you get if the car breaks down, is stolen, or suffers some other type of damage.

It is possible to lease a car from a dealer or an independent leasing company. Be sure that you are actually leasing the car, as sometimes car loans are called leases!

Most new car dealerships have their own leasing scheme.
