France - Real Estate Taxes
There are two different type of taxes pertaining to real estate:
- as a tenant you are obliged to pay the occupancy tax (taxe d'habitation) which is due if you are living in the property on the 1st of January. If you move in the 2nd of January, you will have a much longer period prior being registered in the list of the tax payers. This tax is based on the size of the property and the number of occupants.
- as an owner you have to pay real estate tax (taxe foncière)
Both taxes are due in September.
