France - Vaccinations for Pets

Before travelling with your pet to France, make sure you have the following:

  • Health Certificate for your animal, issued no more than 5 days before departure.

  • The pet must have had a rabies vaccination. The shot should have been given no fewer than thirty days and no more than one year before the scheduled arrival. Not only is an updated antirabies vaccination required, but a test done three months prior to departure is necessary to prove that the animal is rabies free.  This must be from a lab approved by the French Customs (click here for the list) .

  • All dogs and cats must be tattooed or have an electronic identification device by implantable transponder (the chip).

  • Your pet must be at least three months old.

  • Exotic or endangered animals are forbidden.

The easiest and quickest source of information on the issue is your airline carrier.
