ATM - Automated Teller Machine

  • ATM - Automated Teller Machine (guichet automatique de billet - GAB)
  • You find them at banks (not all agencies), at the post-office and in shopping centres. According to the type of credit card you have, you will have a weekly or monthly limit that you can get through the ATM.

Currency

  • Since the 1st of January 2002, we have a new currency: the Euro. Most European countries share the same currency, the only difference may be the engravings on the coins and some notes.
  • Coins :
    Cents : 1 -  2 -  5 - 10 - 20 -  50
    Euros : 1 - 2 
  • Notes :
    Euros : 10 - 20 - 50 - 100 - 200 - 500

Card cloning/theft

  • If your account is being used illegaly, you have to call your bank immediately in order to cancel your cards and/or cheques. Make sure that your credit card contract has insurance to cover fraudulent money withdrawals. The insurance will tell you to go to the police station (gendarmerie) in order to file a complaint. Send this complaint to your insurance company and they will pay you back in a short period of time.
