Houston - Vaccinations

Relocating to a new country always involves getting to know the health system and the first starting point, especially if you have children, is the immunization record. Be prepared and keep your children immunization record at hand, you will need it to enroll your children in school and other social activities.

To have no surprise check with your current doctor or pediatrician if your children immunization record is in line with the requirement of the United States. A lot has been accomplished to have uniform policies regarding the vaccination protocols across the world, but despite all efforts we have not yet a unique protocol worldwide, only UN recommendation practices.

With proper documentation and medical statements you can avoid revaccinating your children to be in line with local protocol.

The suggested and updated  schedule of immunizations in the United States, showing all the vaccinations a child should receive from birth until age sixteen, could be found on the following

As a newcomer to the country you can find below some useful information.

Provisional Enrollment
All immunizations should be completed by the first date of attendance. However if this is not possible and if permitted by the local school district policy, a child/student may be provisionally enrolled and allowed to attend a child-care facility or school provided at least one immunization in each series has been received. The remaining required immunizations must be completed as soon as medically possible in order for the child/student to remain in attendance.

Documentation
Since many types of personal immunization records are in use, any document will be acceptable, provided it has been validated by a physician or public health personnel. The month, day and year in which the vaccination was received must be recorded on all school immunization records created or updated after September 1st 1991.

Exclusions
Texas law provides for exclusions from these minimum mandatory requirements for medical or religious reasons. Persons on active duty with the United States Armed Forces are also exempt from these requirements.

Health Requirements

No prophylaxis is required in the USA.
