Houston - Private schools
International schools
Schools that follow a curriculum other than or in addition to the american one. To anyone interested in the international Baccalaureate (IB, website www.ibo.org), you should know that there are many public schools in Houston that have embraced the IB curriculum, like the Westchester Academy for International Studies in Spring Branch, Lamar in Houston and Bellaire in the City of Bellaire, near the Galleria area.
More and more primary, middle and high schools are filing for IB accreditation. Check Texas Association for IB world schools which have been accredited by the International Baccalaureate Organization for a complete and updated list.
The Newsweek publishes yearly the Best High School list, check if any of the schools you are interested in made it into the list.

Created 24 years ago to foster German language education and culture in children. The school meets on Saturday morning at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Rice Village. Classes offered include Preschool, Kindergarten, and Elementary Level through High School. In addition, we offer adult classes on Saturdays and during the week on Tuesday.
Many of the students have successfully taken the AP, the AATG Exam, and das Deutsche Sprachdiplom. For adults we offer the “Zertifikat Deutsch” and the “Goethe-Zertifikat B2” of the Goethe Institute of Germany.
Private Schools
Some private schools are off-limits for passing-by expat (like Kinkaid, Saint John's), because it is already difficult for the local to gain entry, still it is worth a try. If the american curriculum fits your family's education needs, go for it, you will be met by outstanding facilities and high academic standard with more contained fees. The schools reputation is also an excellent passport for admission to some of the most prestigious university in the US.

Rainard School is Houston's only non-profit private school for academically gifted children. They offer a school-year program designed to meet the academic, social, emotional and intellectual needs of exceptionally bright students. The students meet in small classes of 12-15. The classes are mixed-age, so students can be with other kids who are their peers both intellectually and socially.
Rainard is a very small school. In the fall of 2010, the school's total enrollment, lower school and high school combined, was approximately 70 students.
