Houston - Duty free shopping

Shopping prices are shown without taxes, and taxes will be added at the counter. The sales taxes are compounded by different taxes (federal, state and city), which explain the different tax percentage you may find from one city to the next.
Texas waives the state taxes.

In the city of Houston, sales taxes are 8.25%. Some basic alimentary products are not taxed.

Refunds are a minimum of $10.00 on taxes per store.

If you are visiting temporarily, you can ask for a tax free deduction only at Texas Tax Back .

To claim your taxes, you will need your passport , your return ticket (E-tickets are acceptable), and the original receipt of purchases (not older than 30 days) . You will be reimbursed only a portion of the sales taxes.

Multiple receipts from the same physical store must add a minimum of $10.00 on taxes( receipts from the same branch on different location doesn't qualify)

Tips

Ask for duplicate receipts on important purchases for your records, since the Texas custom will keep the originals.
