Houston - Books, magazines and music shops

There are many bookstores and record stores. The possibility of finding books in languages other than English in the main book stores is limited, but due to the large Chinese and Spanish speaking communities, the selection is good for those two languages in particular.

You can also buy videos and dvd in supermarkets and chain bookstores. Video rental stores, like the Blockbusters chain, do also sell videos and dvd.

Magazines

The concept of the newsstand in Houston is not common. You can buy a large variety of magazines in bookstores, but you will also find a smaller selection of the most common mass market magazines in supermarkets.
In the Galleria you can find international press and magazines.

Bookshops

The vast selection of bookshops in the States can be overwhelming for foreigners. Books are a way of life here and many a bookshop are like a second home, with cozy chairs and sofas to sit on, while thumbing through a book or a magazine. Some bookstores have Coffee Shops, book signings, meetings with the author, lectures and so on.
Most malls or shopping centers have bookstores; the list below offers some of the more unique ones.

Chain bookshops are situated all over the Houston area.
