What is available for children in Kuwait City.

Art

Courses in drawing, painting, ceramics and general art are open to children aged 8 years and over, and adults. All courses run for 10-week periods in a supportive, exciting environment and well-equipped studios. Beginners are welcome and are encouraged using innovative teaching methods.

    Bayt Lothan is a non-profit arts and crafts centre that was founded to promote local and international handicrafts. The centre arranges various training programmes including courses in jewellery making, pottery, drawing, painting, mixed media, computer, photography, Arabic calligraphy and music. There is a tea room as well as a shop. Open 9:00 am – 1:00 pm and 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm Saturdays to Wednesday and 9:00 am – 1:00 pm on Thursdays. Closed Fridays.

Music

    email:          10-week courses are offered on the clarinet, classical piano, flute, guitar, keyboard, recorder, saxophone and violin. Singing classes are available for individuals and groups. The school caters for students from the age of 6 to adults. For examination students Associated Board of Music (UK) exams are written. Courses commence in mid-September and run throughout the academic year. Sundays 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm: keyboard, recorder and singing (ages 6 – 9) Mondays 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm: guitar for beginners 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm: violin 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm: advanced guitar Thursdays 10:30 am – 11:30 am: keyboard (ages 9+) 11:30 am – 12:30 pm: singing and woodwind (ages 10+)

    email:          The British School of Ballet, located at the British School of Kuwait (BSK) offers certified courses for children between the ages of 3 – 14. There are three terms with 10 lessons in each.

Dance

  • Kuwait School of Dance 
    Based in Salmiya, this dance school hosts a variety of courses for girls from the age of 4 years, including ballet. Performances are held throughout the year in various venues, announced prior to the performances.

Theatre

    email:         10-week acting courses over three terms are offered. Lectures include theatre technique, acting, singing and confidence building. Professional examinations for students 8 years and older are taken in conjunction with the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA). There are themed days with competitions and a finale presented June of each year. Courses are held on Thursdays from 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm
    Speech courses are held in the two terms from October to March and include preparation in spoken English, reciting poetry and reading for performance. Courses are held on Tuesdays from 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm.
