World - TV systems

Not all TVs work in all countries! Watch out for systems and zones!

There are several standards worldwide, so before transferring your equipment check that the one that is in use in your country of destination is the same as what you have.

You might be familiar with NTSC, PAL and SECAM already, but there are new systems in the pipeline, such as ATSC Digital TV Standards* which includes digital high definition television (HDTV), standard definition television (SDTV), data broadcasting, multichannel surround-sound audio, and Satellite direct-to-home broadcasting. While all this revolution is taking place, better check the tv system used in the country you are moving to, then decide what to do with your equipment.
(*) On December 24, 1996, the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) adopted the major elements of the ATSC Digital Television Standard (A/53) for the nation's next generation of broadcast television; Canada, S. Korea, Taiwan and Argentina also have adopted the ATSC DTV Standard for digital terrestrial broadcasts.
