Hong Kong - Utilities

— filed under:

Electricity, garbage, gas, phone, TV, cable, internet, radio, water and sewer

After choosing your flat, you will need to hook up your utilities. There aren't many companies to choose from when it comes to electricity, gas, phone, and water. Internet service providers (ISP) have more variety and you can find a plan that suits your needs. Be aware that some locations in Hong Kong are not equipped for broadband, so if broadband is important to you, find out if your flat has access before you sign the lease. This can be done by calling a broadband provider and asking if they can set up a service at your flat's location.

Most bills can be paid through ATMs or by automatic withdrawal from your bank account.

It is important to note that if you go to a website that appears to be in Chinese, look at the top of the screen for words in English. Click there and you will be taken into the English portion of the website.
